Irish-bred Scorpiancer (6g Scorpion-Janebailey, by Silver Patriarch) transferred his talents across the Atlantic when winning the $100,000 Foxbrook Champion Hurdle at Far Hills in New Jersey on Saturday.
The Scorpion gelding looks set to make a good impression in the US after this three-length success in the colours of Bruton Street-US. Scorpiancer, who also won a handicap hurdle in America in September, was trained by Jack Fisher and ridden by Connor Hankin to victory.
Bred by Mary O’Connor, Scorpiancer began his racing career in Irish point-to-points, scoring by 10 lengths at Kildorrery in February 2014 for owner Tommy Singleton and trainer Eugene O’Sullivan. He was then sold at Brightwells for £200,000 to join trainer Rebecca Curtis, for whom he won over hurdles.
Scorpiancer has a three-year-old brother by Mahler, bought by O’Sullivan and Singleton at the Goffs Land Rover Sale in June.
