Promising young sire Duke of Marmalade has wasted no time in siring his second stakes-winner with Childa (3f Duke of Marmalade x Chill, by Verglas) taking out the Listed Prix Rose de Mai at Saint Cloud.
Prepared by Stephane Wattel, Childa has been on the improve after breaking through late last year for her first win and looked good in surging away to snare the mile and a quarter contest by a length and a quarter.
She has the overall record of three wins from six starts and looks to have the scope to win better races.
“Christophe Soumillon rode her last year and said she would win a Listed race and she delivered nicely,” said winning rider Stephane Pasquier.
“I had a very good trip and I really like what she showed here.”
Childa is the first stakes-winner for stakes-winning Verglas mare Chill, a half-sister to Group III winner Remus de la Tour.
She becomes the second stakes-winner for Duke of Marmalade following on from Morning Frost (3f Duke of Marmalade x Evening Time, by Keltos), who won the Listed Prix Ronde de Nuit on Thursday.
Both fillies are bred along similar lines being from mares by sires that are grand-sons of former champion French sire Kenmare.
