Seven Straight for Atlantic Jewel

Unbeaten filly Atlantic Jewel (3f Fastnet Rock x Regard, by Zabeel) extended her flawless streak to seven straight wins when downing top class sprinter Rain Affair to win the Group I ATC All Aged Stakes at Randwick on Saturday. Prepared by Mark Kavanagh, Atlantic Jewel was sent out a red hot favourite following her facile first up win at the same venue two weeks ago and ran right up to expectation. Ridden perfectly by Michael Rodd, Atlantic Jewel tracked Rain Affair throughout and then accelerated past him over the final furlong to win the 1400 metre weight-for-age contest by more than a length. "I think she has put in a pretty good effort," Mark Kavanagh said. "They ran pretty good time, she is on the improve and he is a tough fella that Rain Affair and he got a couple of cheap sections in there. "It was her first test at weight-for-age and first test against the boys and she has had to work - she knows how to win." A $320,000 purchase for Demi O’Byrne from the Vinery Stud draft at the 2010 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Atlantic Jewel runs in the Coolmore colours for a syndicate of owners and has won all seven starts to date earning $927,925. "She will go the paddock now and head toward the spring,” Kavanagh said. "We will talk about (future plans) with the Coolmore boys tonight. We just want to make out the right campaign for her and put her in the right races but it (the Cox Plate) is definitely on the agenda." Bred by Greg Perry and foaled down at Vinery, Atlantic Jewel is the first living foal of the well bred Zabeel mare Regard, a grand-daughter of Group I Cheveley Park Stakes winner Pass the Peace. Regard was purchased for Perry by bloodstock agent Steve Brem for $340,000 at the 2008 MM National Broodmare Sale, but sadly had only one more foal following Atlantic Jewel before her premature death last year.
