Sky’s the limit for Great Heavens after Lancashire Oaks romp

Great Heavens (3f Galileo-Magnificent Style, by Silver Hawk) looks set to make her mark in the highest company following a decisive victory in the G2 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock. A full-sister to the 2011 G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes victor Nathaniel, John Gosden’s filly was always near the head of affairs throughout the mile and a half contest and quickened clear of her rivals passing the two-furlong pole. Jockey Rab Havlin eased his mount near the line for a five-length verdict over Shimmering Surf (5m Danehill Dancer-Sun On The Sea, by Bering) with Set To Music (4f Danehill Dancer-Zarabaya, by Doyoun) completing a clean sweep for Coolmore stallions. “I gave her a squeeze early enough but she stays well,” commented Havlin. “She was getting weight off the older horses, so I thought that I would make it count and she seems to be improving. She is a no-nonsense filly who is very resilient and very tough. “Her family always improved with age and let’s hope that there is more to come. She definitely could have Group One potential.”
