Australian bred mare Dylan’s Promise (4m Dylan Thomas x Madonna, by Rigoletto) won the Group II Betting World Oaks for fillies and older mares at Clairwood in South Africa on Sunday.
The Charles Laird trained mare was a stakes-winner at two and then won the Group II Clairwood Gold Circle Oaks last season and has now added another feature win at four.
She won this 2500 metre staying test by a length and a half, her overall record now eight wins from 20 starts.
A $35,000 purchase for Heritage Bloodstock from the Erinvale Thoroughbreds draft at the 2011 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Dylan’s Promise is the best Southern Hemisphere bred offspring for her sire Dylan Thomas, who shuttled to Australia for five seasons with his last crop of foals now weanlings.
Foaled and raised at Coolmore, Dylan’s Promise is the best of four winners from Group I placed Rigoletto mare Madonna, who is the grand-dam of stakes-winner Marianne and Group I placed Our Miss Jones.
Madonna has a yearling filly by High Chaparral that made $100,000 at Inglis Easter and was bought by South African based Form Bloodstock. She also has a weanling filly by the same sire to follow.
