South African Stakes-Winner for Rock of Gibraltar

Australian bred mare Europe to Africa (4m Rock of Gibraltar x Golden Bridge, by Gold Brose) scored her first Black Type success when taking out the Listed The Scarlet Lady Stakes at Scottsville in South Africa on Sunday. The Vaughan Marshall trained daughter of Rock of Gibraltar made a one act affair of the 1800 metre contest, cruising home to win by seven lengths. Placed in the Group II Gold Circle Oaks last season at three, Europe to Africa has now won four of 20 starts and was a $100,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase for World Wide Bloodstock from the draft of Newgate Farm. A half-sister to Group I winner Alringtonboulevard, Europe to Africa is one of five winners from good producer Golden Bridge, who had a filly by Blue Diamond winner Reaan last spring and was covered again by the same sire. Europe to Africa is the 81st stakes-winner for Rock of Gibraltar, who shuttled to Australia for a good many years and is now based permanently in Ireland for Coolmore.
