“Declaration of War has an incredibly similar profile to Giant’s Causeway who also joined us after standing a single season in Ireland. Both were unbeaten at two, both won some of Britain’s key Group 1 races over a mile and a mile-and-a-quarter and both ran incredible races on their first starts on traditional dirt in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. And then of course they’re both by top sires out of daughters of Rahy from great American families. Bred by Joe Allen in whose colours he ran, Declaration of War was one of the best yearlings ever raised here on the farm and we’re delighted to be getting him back.” Ashford manager Dermot Ryan

There is probably no stallion in Kentucky with a bigger international reputation than Danzig’s fast son War Front, whose progeny can shine on all surfaces and are equally at home in the U.S. and Europe. Declaration of War played a large part in this, underlining his class and versatility by beating the top milers in the Gr.1 Queen Anne S. and the top middle-distance horses in the Gr.1 Juddmonte International. He then ran extremely well when a narrowly-beaten third in the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, showing that he could produce his best form on dirt, as well as on turf and all-weather.

War Front’s popularity was amply demonstrated at the 2015 yearling sales.  Not only did his own yearlings, sired at $80,000, achieve an average of nearly $575,000 but the first crop by his son The Factor averaged nearly ten times his fee, with a top price of $750,000.

Like the three-time champion sire Giant’s Causeway, Declaration of War was sired by a member of the Northern Dancer male line from a daughter of Rahy. Giant’s Causeway has proved exceptionally well suited by mares from the MR PROSPECTOR line, and War Front has also had plenty of success with this line. As Declaration of War’s two lines to MR PROSPECTOR will be in the fifth and sixth generations of his foals, there is no problem with sending him mares by sons and grandsons of MR PROSPECTOR. War Front sired the high-class The Factor from a MISWAKI mare and the Gr.1 2yo winner Peace And War from a daughter of SMART STRIKE.  The broodmare sires of his Graded winners also include Mr Prospector’s sons PROCIDA and FORTY NINER and Forty Niner’s son CORONADO’S QUEST. Mares by Forty Niner’s son DISTORTED HUMOR create 3×4 to DANZIG with Declaration of War and are well worth trying. War Front also has a leading Hong Kong winner and a Gr.3 winner with dams by UNBRIDLED’S SONG, so other members of the FAPPIANO branch could suit Declaration of War, who has Fappiano in his fourth generation.

The branches which have excelled with Giant’s Causeway include KINGMAMBO, SEEKING THE GOLD and MACHIAVELLIAN. SEEKING THE GOLD sired the second dam of War Front’s top-class 2015 2yo Air Force Blue.

Another branch of the RAISE A NATIVE male line helped supply Declaration of War with his dual Gr.1 winner Air Force Blue. His dam is by MARIA’S MON, which suggests daughters of SUPER SAVER will also suit.

The other avenue which demands to be explored is the A.P. INDY male line. From 22 foals out of PULPIT mares, War Front has sired five stakes winners, headed by Gr.2 winner Departing, and he also has a Gr.1 performer out of an OLD TRIESTE mare. His sire’s success with PULPIT suggests Declaration of War will also suit daughters of MALIBU MOON, MINESHAFT and CONGRATS, who produce 5×4 to Mr Prospector.

BERNARDINI mares also hold plenty of appeal and daughters of TAPIT would be very interesting as they create distant duplications to Fappiano, Ruby Slippers and Nijinsky.

With his Danzig blood, Declaration of War is a natural choice for mares by GALILEO, creating 4×4 to Northern Dancer and 5×5 to Mr Prospector. War Front sired a Gr.2 winner from an EL PRADO mare and he has a speedy Listed winner out of a daughter of SADLER’S WELLS. Declaration of War has to be a contender for daughters of MEDAGLIA D’ORO and KITTEN’S JOY.

War Front sired the Gr.1 2yo winner War Command from a mare by ROBERTO’s son RED RANSOM and he also has a Gr.1 winner out of a mare by Roberto’s grandson ARCH. Mares by the latter create 3×4 to DANZIG with Declaration of War. Daughters of DYNAFORMER and SILVER HAWK should also suit.

War Front sired a Gr.2 winner from a CLEVER TRICK mare and a Gr.1 winner from a mare by MAZEL TRICK, a grandson of CLEVER TRICK. Mares with PHONE TRICK blood could reinforce War Front’s speed in Declaration of War’s progeny.
