Galileo is truly a phenomenon, a ruler of the world himself and universally acknowledged as the best sire on the planet“. Tony Morris, Racing Post 6/6/13

Although Galileo is a grandson of NORTHERN DANCER, much of his success has been with mares with Northern Dancer blood, with the DANZIG branch achieving extraordinary success. His nine Group winners out of DANEHILL mares feature the brilliant Frankel, the champion two-year-old Teofilo, the Italian Derby winner Cima de Triomphe, the classic winners Golden Lilac and Roderic O’Connor and the unbeaten 2011 two-year-old Maybe. Galileo’s triple Gr.1 winner Lush Lashes is out of a mare by ANABAA, another son of DANZIG. As Galileo’s dam produced the exceptional Sea The Stars to CAPE CROSS and the classic-placed Born To Sea to INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, mares by GREEN DESERT and his sons have obvious appeal. His record with GREEN DESERT mares is excellent, featuring the Epsom Oaks winner Was, the very promising Gr.2 winner Battle of Marengo and the Gr.3 winner Lay Time.

Galileo is an excellent mate for mares whose pedigrees include NUREYEV, a three-parts brother to Sadler’s Wells. The Gr.2 winner Incanto Dream and the Gr.3 winner South Easter are among his first ten foals out of NUREYEV mares. The brilliant miler Rip Van Winkle is out of a daughter of STRAVINSKY, while Purple Moon has a second dam by NUREYEV. Sadler’s Wells’ brother FAIRY KING sired the second dam of the Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Red Rocks.

LAST TYCOON sired the dam of an Australian Gr.1 winner, plus the second dam of Gr.1 winner Lily of the Valley.

Galileo has sired the high-class Misty For Me from a STORM CAT mare and a Gr.3 winner from a MOUNTAIN CAT mare. BLUEBIRD, another representative of the STORM BIRD male line, sired the second dam of the classic-winning Nightime.

Galileo has four Stakes winners out of INDIAN RIDGE mares, including the Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Nightime, the Gr.2 winner David Livingston and the Gr.3 winner Oh Goodness Me. Gr.1 winner Maybe has a second dam by INDIAN RIDGE. Galileo’s Derby winner New Approach is out of a daughter of AHONOORA, while the accomplished Rip Van Winkle has a second dam by DON’T FORGET ME.

Mares by DARSHAAN with Galileo has already produced six Group winners, headed by Alandi, a dual Gr.1 winner. A daughter of Darshaan’s son MARK OF ESTEEM produced Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach. Galileo’s Irish St Leger winner Sans Frontieres is out of a SHIRLEY HEIGHTS mare and his 2012 Grand Prix de Paris winner Imperial Monarch is out of a mare by Shirley Heights’ son SLIP ANCHOR.

Galileo is shining with the ROBERTO line, notably siring the King George and Eclipse winner Nathaniel and the Irish Oaks heroine Great Heavens from a daughter of SILVER HAWK. He has also sired Group winners from daughters of KRIS S. LEAR FAN, RED RANSOM, DR FONG and INTIKHAB (2).

The St Leger winner Sixties Icon and the Australian Gr.2 winner Gallant Tess are from DIESIS mares, so he suits the SHARPEN UP line. Roderic O’Connor has a second dam by KRIS. PRESIDIUM, a half-brother to Diesis and Kris, is the broodmare sire of the top-class Cape Blanco.

His high-class daughter Misty For Me and the promising Battle of Marengo have second dams by MR PROSPECTOR, and are therefore inbred 4×3. Galileo also sired the Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Red Rocks from a daughter of MACHIAVELLIAN. Galileo has a Gr.2 winning son and a Gr.1 performer out of ALYSHEBA mares while MAJESTIC LIGHT, another Raise A Native line stallion, sired the second dam of Teofilo.

BERING and his son PENNEKAMP represent another branch of the NATIVE DANCER male line which demands serious consideration. Galileo’s foals out of Bering mares include the Derby second At First Sight, while his Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach and the Gr.3 winner Quest For Peace have BERING second dams. His first few foals out of PENNEKAMP mares feature the Gr.1 winners Together and Lily of the Valley.

Galileo sired the Gr.1 winner Galikova from a BLUSHING GROOM mare. A RAINBOW QUEST mare is the second dam of Frankel and Lush Lashes’s second dam is by ARAZI.

CARO’s son CRYSTAL PALACE sired the second dams of two of Galileo’s Gr.1 winners.
