Mastercraftsman could hardly have made a brighter start to his stallion career, with his first crop producing the highly talented colts The Grey Gatsby and Kingston Hill, plus the top filly Amazing Maria. His total of first-crop Group winners stands at an impressive nine.

Three of those nine Group winners are out of mares from the SADLER’S WELLS line, with ENTREPRENEUR siring the dam of The Grey Gatsby, IN THE WINGS the dam of Master Carpenter and SINGSPIEL the dam of Victoria Regina. This ties in with the record of Mastercraftsman’s sire Danehill Dancer, who sired Group winners from mares by SADLER’S WELLS and by six of his sons, including MONTJEU (the top-class filly Legatissimo). A HIGH CHAPARRAL mare produced the Prix Morny winner The Wow Signal to a grandson of Danehill Dancer.

Danehill Dancer enjoyed plenty of success with the BLUSHING GROOM line, siring Group winners from daughters of ARAZI, NASHWAN, RAHY and RAINBOW QUEST. It’s significant that Kingston Hill is out of a RAINBOW QUEST mare, as is his Listed winning son Restorer, and he sired Gr.3 winner Dessertoflife from a SPECTRUM mare. Mastercraftsman clearly merits more mares with BLUSHING GROOM blood.

The STORM BIRD line is potentially important to Mastercraftsman. He has already sired the dual Gr.1 winner Amazing Maria and a Listed winner from daughters of TALE OF THE CAT, plus the Gr.3 winner Craftsman from a FOREST WILDCAT mare. Choisir has a Gr.2 winner in Australia out of a mare by CATRAIL and Danehill Dancer sired the Gr.1 winner Miss Beatrix from another CATRAIL mare. Danehill Dancer also sired the high-class Planteur from a GIANT’S CAUSEWAY mare.

More LYPHARD blood is an option as ALZAO sired the dam of Choisir’s top miler Olympic Glory. Danehill Dancer sired the top miler Esoterique from a mare by DANCING BRAVE and his smart son Jeremy has a second dam by ALZAO. LINAMIX mares have produced Group winners to Danehill Dancer and Choisir, with Danehill Dancer having 29% stakes winners, and they are likely to suit Mastercraftsman.

Danehill Dancer has Gr.2 and Gr.3 winners inbred 3×3 to SHARPEN UP and others inbred 3×4 to him, so Mastercraftsman is a likeable option for mares by KRIS, DIESIS, SELKIRK and COMMON GROUNDS. He already has a Listed winner inbred 4×3, out of a TREMPOLINO mare.

He already has a very useful French filly with a dam by KINGMAMBO and a top-class son with a KINGMAMBO second dam. Three of Mastercraftsman’s Group winners have dams sired by grandsons of MR PROSPECTOR, with one having a dam by MR GREELEY, a GONE WEST horse who creates 5×4 to the top sprinter-miler Lianga. Mares by DUBAWI and DUTCH ART could reinforce Mastercraftsman’s juvenile ability.

Danehill Dancer sired a classic winner from a mare by INDIAN RIDGE. Three of his other stallion sons have sired Group winners from this line, from daughters of INDIAN RIDGE, NAMID and COMPTON PLACE.

Mastercraftsman’s sire Danehill Dancer was very well suited by the NIJINSKY branch of the Northern Dancer male line, which has supplied him with two of his classic winners – Speciosa is out of a mare by Nijinsky’s son SKY CLASSIC and Again is out of a mare by Nijinsky’s grandson KAHYASI. Significantly, another son of Danehill Dancer has sired a Prix de l’Abbaye winner from a daughter of CAERLEON.

There are some smart performers inbred 2×3 or 3×3 to DANEHILL. Gr.3 winner Ladies Are Forever and Gr.1 sprinter Hoof It are by a son of Danehill Dancer out of a daughter of DANETIME. Choisir’s Australian Gr.3 winner Psychologist is out of a DANZERO mare.

There are also several smart performers inbred to the great DANZIG, with GREEN DESERT on their dams’ side. Danehill Dancer has Gr.1 winners inbred 3×4 to DANZIG. Mastercraftsman already has a Group-placed performer with a dam by OASIS DREAM. He also has a Gr.3 winner inbred 4×3 to Danzig, out of a WAR CHANT mare.

Danehill sired Rock of Gibraltar from a BE MY GUEST mare and Danehill Dancer sired a Gr.3 winner from another. Another son of Danehill Dancer sired the smart filly Myplacelater from a mare by BE MY GUEST’s son MOST WELCOME.

Danehill Dancer had talented performers out of daughters of LEAR FAN and SILVER HAWK, so ROBERTO line mares are an option for Mastercraftsman, whose female line produced a top-class colt to Roberto.

Mastercraftsman’s female line produced several top performers to RIVERMAN, so he will suit the NEVER BEND line. Danehill Dancer’s Lillie Langtry is out of a DARSHAAN mare and another Gr.1 winner Alexander Tango has a second dam by RIVERMAN. Choisir’s Gr.1 winner Olympic Glory has a second dam by SHIRLEY HEIGHTS.
