Another star 2yo for Mastercraftsman

Mastercraftsman has demonstrated his talents as a stallion, siring nine Group winners from a first crop of 135 foals, headed by The Grey Gatsby (Prix du Jockey-Club and Irish Champion S.), Kingston Hill (St Leger and second in the Derby) and the top filly Amazing Maria. That is 6.6% Group winners to foals.

Several of his Group winners are out of mares from the SADLER’S WELLS line. Even Song has a dam by SADLER’S WELLS, while ENTREPRENEUR sired the dam of The Grey Gatsby, IN THE WINGS the dam of Master Carpenter and SINGSPIEL the dam of Victoria Regina. This ties in with the record of Mastercraftsman’s sire Danehill Dancer, who sired Group winners from mares by SADLER’S WELLS and by six of his sons, including MONTJEU (the top-class filly Legatissimo). Mares by HIGH CHAPARRAL produced the Listed winner A Raving Beauty to Mastercraftsman, plus the Prix Morny winner The Wow Signal to a grandson of Danehill Dancer.

Danehill Dancer enjoyed plenty of success with the BLUSHING GROOM line, siring Group winners from daughters of ARAZI, NASHWAN, RAHY (2) and RAINBOW QUEST (2). One of the RAINBOW QUEST mares produced Gr.1 winner Qemah. It is therefore significant that Kingston Hill is out of a RAINBOW QUEST mare, as is Mastercraftsman’s Group-placed son Restorer. He also sired the very useful 2017 juvenile Alpha Centauri from a RAHY mare and the Gr.3 winner Dessertoflife from a mare by Rainbow Quest’s son SPECTRUM. Mastercraftsman clearly merits more mares with BLUSHING GROOM blood.

The STORM BIRD line is potentially important to Mastercraftsman. He has already sired the dual Gr.1 winner Amazing Maria and a Listed winner from daughters of TALE OF THE CAT, plus the Gr.3 winner Craftsman from a FOREST WILDCAT mare. Danehill Dancer sired the Gr.1 winner Miss Beatrix from a CATRAIL mare and also sired the high-class Planteur from a GIANT’S CAUSEWAY mare.

More LYPHARD blood is an option as ALZAO sired the dam of Choisir’s top miler Olympic Glory. Danehill Dancer sired the top miler Esoterique from a mare by DANCING BRAVE and his smart son Jeremy has a second dam by ALZAO. LINAMIX mares have produced Group winners to Danehill Dancer and Choisir, with both these stallions having 29% stakes winners. They are likely to suit Mastercraftsman, who has four winners from five runners.

Danehill Dancer has Gr.2 and Gr.3 winners inbred 3×3 to SHARPEN UP and others inbred 3×4 to him, so Mastercraftsman is a likeable option for mares from this line. He already has a Gr.3 winner inbred 4×4 and a Listed winner inbred 4×3.

He has a very Gr.3 winning filly with a dam by KINGMAMBO and a top-class son with a KINGMAMBO second dam. Three of Mastercraftsman’s Group winners have dams sired by grandsons of MR PROSPECTOR. ELUSIVE QUALITY, SPEIGHTSTOWN, ZAFONIC, ZAMINDAR, KING’S BEST and MEDICEAN are other grandsons of MR PROSPECTOR whose daughters could succeed with Mastercraftsman.

Danehill Dancer sired a classic winner from a mare by INDIAN RIDGE. Three of his other stallion sons have sired Group winners from this line, from daughters of INDIAN RIDGE, NAMID and COMPTON PLACE.

Mastercraftsman has a Gr.3 winner out of a CAERLEON mare. His sire Danehill Dancer did particularly well with the NIJINSKY branch, which supplied him with two of his classic winners – Speciosa, out of a mare by Nijinsky’s son SKY CLASSIC, and Again, out of a mare by Nijinsky’s grandson KAHYASI. Another son of Danehill Dancer has sired a Prix de l’Abbaye winner from a daughter of CAERLEON.

The Danehill male line has some smart performers inbred either 2×3 or 3×3 to DANEHILL. The Gr.3 winner Ladies Are Forever and Gr.1 sprinter Hoof It are by a son of Danehill Dancer out of a daughter of DANETIME, whereas Choisir’s Hong Kong Derby winner Luger is out of a DANZERO mare.

There are also several smart performers inbred to the great DANZIG, with GREEN DESERT on their dams’ side. Danehill Dancer’s smart performers inbred 3×4 to DANZIG including a Gr.1 two-year-old winner and the classic-placed Tamazirte. Mastercraftsman already has a Group-placed performer with a dam by OASIS DREAM.

Mastercraftsman already has Group-placed performers out of daughters of SHIRLEY HEIGHTS and DARSHAAN, and two of his Group winners have DARSHAAN second dams. Danehill Dancer’s accomplished daughter Lillie Langtry is out of a DARSHAAN mare and Choisir’s Gr.1 winner Olympic Glory has a second dam by SHIRLEY HEIGHTS.

Mastercraftsman’s first foal out of a KENDOR mare has earned black type. Other sons of Danehill Dancer have Group winners out of daughters of HIGHEST HONOR and KENDOR.
