Most Improved’s foals have made a big impression this year and the G1 St James’s Palace Stakes hero was responsible…View Article
As a two-year-old, Most Improved followed up an impressive five-length victory at Newmarket with a close third in the Gr.1 Dewhurst S. His potential as a sire of two-year-olds has been highlighted by his half-brother Ectot, a Gr.1 winning juvenile. Unfortunately Most Improved had to miss the 2,000 Guineas, for which he had been strongly supported, but quickly confirmed that he would have been a major player in the Newmarket classic. Up against a St James’s Palace Stakes field which included the winners of the French and Irish 2,000 Guineas and the third from the 2,000 Guineas, Most Improved won in good style to follow in the footsteps of such as Shamardal, Mastercraftsman, Canford Cliffs and Frankel.
Lawman is also shaping up with grand-daughters of AHONOORA, siring Group winners from daughters of INDIAN RIDGE and INCHINOR. Lawman’s sire Invincible Spirit has three Group winners with dams by INDIAN RIDGE, so it would be a surprise if this line didn’t suit Most Improved. Clodovil, another stallion bred on the Danzig-Linamix cross, sired a Gr.1 winner from an INDIAN RIDGE mare. This suggests that Most Improved could suit daughters of ACCLAMATION, who was sired from an Ahonoora mare by ROYAL APPLAUSE, the broodmare sire of one of Lawman’s Group performers.
Most Improved’s sire Lawman confirmed his promise by siring the Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Just The Judge and her fellow Gr.1 winner Law Enforcement in his second crop. Both these Gr.1 winners are out of mares by RAINBOW QUEST.
Just The Judge’s pedigree also includes Sadler’s Wells’ brother FAIRY KING, who also sired the dam of Lawman’s speedy French son Lover Man and the second dam of Lawman’s Gr.3 winner Us Law. SADLER’S WELLS is also playing his part in the Lawman success story, siring the dam of the Gr.3 winner Lady Wingshot. There are also black-type performers out of mares by Sadler’s Wells’s sons MONTJEU, HIGH CHAPARRAL, ENTREPRENEUR and BEAT HOLLOW. Mares by MONTJEU and his sons merit serious consideration now that Most Improved’s dam has produced a Gr.1 winner to one of them.
Nijinsky’s sons CAERLEON and ROYAL ACADEMY both appear among the sires of Lawman’s black-type performers, as does Caerleon’s son SUAVE DANCER. A ROYAL ACADEMY mare also produced the durable Group winner Beacon Lodge to Clodovil, another representative of the Danzig-Linamix cross.
Most Improved is inbred 4 x 4 to the great Danzig, through his outstandingly successful sons GREEN DESERT and DANEHILL. As there is already a Group winner with three lines of Danzig in her pedigree, Most Improved isn’t ruled out for mares by sons of Danehill, which create 4 x 3 to Danehill and 5 x 5 x 4 to Danzig. The same applies to sons of Green Desert.
Most Improved has two distant lines to MILL REEF in his pedigree and several of Lawman’s other good winners have two lines to either MILL REEF or SHIRLEY HEIGHTS. Most Improved looks sure to suit mares with DARSHAAN blood and this has come to fruition, as his 2yo Gr.2 winner Agnes Stewart has a dam by DALAKHANI.
