Just how much the market loves fast-maturing 2yos was highlighted by the extremely warm welcome extended to the first crop yearlings by No Nay Never. Their popularity also reflected the tremendous impact that Scat Daddy has made, especially in Europe’s top 2yo sprints in recent years, thanks to the likes of No Nay Never, Acapulco, Lady Aurelia, Carravaggio and Sioux Nation. Scat Daddy proved highly effective as a sire of 2yos, while at the same time showing that he could upgrade his mares.
Other members of the Storm Cat male line have sired Gr.1 winners from daughters of DANEHILL, DANSILI and FASTNET ROCK. There was considerable demand for No Nay Never’s yearlings from the DANEHILL line, with high prices being paid for youngsters out of daughters of FASTNET ROCK, ROCK OF GIBRALTAR, CATCHER IN THE RYE, EXCEED AND EXCEL and DANEHILL.
The GREEN DESERT branch should reinforce No Nay Never’s speed and precocity, especially daughters of INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, OASIS DREAM, CAPE CROSS and DESERT STYLE. Scat Daddy’s 2017 Phoenix Stakes winner Sioux Nation has a dam by OASIS DREAM.
The NUREYEV line could suit, such as daughters of SOVIET STAR, PIVOTAL, CAPTAIN RIO and KYLLACHY. A No Nay Never yearling with a dam by PEINTRE CELEBRE sold for €400,000.
Scat Daddy’s flying daughter Lady Aurelia is inbred 4 x 3 to STORM CAT and another of his Gr.1 winners, Harmonize, is inbred 4 x 4.
MONTJEU daughters should do well with No Nay Never. It was a HIGH CHAPARRAL mare which produced No Nay Never’s 850,000gns yearling. GALILEO mares could also work, as Galileo is excelling with mares by Storm Cat and Johannesburg. A yearling with a GALILEO dam sold for €325,000.
Expect to see No Nay Never make his mark with mares from the quick-maturing ROYAL APPLAUSE line, including those by his son and grandson ACCLAMATION and DARK ANGEL.
