Machiavellian’s broodmare daughters have made a huge impact on the Irish thoroughbred by producing the top stallions Shamardal, Dark Angel and Zoffany, and another in-demand stallion Lope de Vega is inbred 3×3 to Machiavellian. Irish breeders are therefore sure to be attracted to Pride of Dubai, who is by Machiavellian’s best stallion son, Street Cry. Pride of Dubai also has the attraction of being out of a half-sister to the dam of Invincible Spirit and Kodiac. His dam Al Anood, sired by Danehill from Eljazzi, is closely related to the dam of Gustav Klimt and is bred along similar lines to James Garfield, another Group-winning 2yo of 2017.

Pride of Dubai was one of the best Australian two-year-olds of 2014-15, when he won the Gr.1 Blue Diamond Stakes over six furlongs and the Gr.1 Sires Produce Stakes over seven. He is one of many Gr.1 winners sired by Street Cry, whose progeny includes the legendary American champion Zenyatta, the exceptional Australian mare Winx and the Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense.

One option is to try Pride of Dubai with mares by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, which create 4×4 to Danzig and 3×4 to Eljazzi (Kodiac produces 3×3 to Danehill and 3×4 to Eljazzi). LAWMAN mares could also be an option. GREEN DESERT sired the dam of Street Cry’s Fillies’ Mile winner Lyric of Light. OASIS DREAM, like INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, has a fine record with Machiavellian.

Street Cry and his older stallion sons owe some of their success to mares from the STORM BIRD male line. Street Cry has Group/Graded winners out of mares by Storm Bird’s sons STORM CAT, SUMMER SQUALL and BLUEBIRD, plus others out of mares by Storm Cat’s sons ALJABR, TABASCO CAT and TALE OF THE CAT. Street Cry’s sons have Gr.1 winners out of daughters of CAT THIEF and FOREST WILDCAT. This suggests that Pride of Dubai will do well with mares from the GIANT’S CAUSEWAY branch, by FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND and SHAMARDAL. SHAMARDAL’s daughters are particularly interesting, as they create 3×4 to both Machiavellian and Helen Street, the second line coming via Street Cry’s sister Helsinki. Shamardal’s top son Lope de Vega is inbred 3×3 to Machiavellian.

The ROBERTO line has obvious appeal. KRIS S. sired the dam of the brilliant Zenyatta, plus the Australian Gr.2 winner Tally, and also sired the second dam of a Gr.2 winner. The Melbourne Cup winner Shocking also has a second dam by a son of Roberto. Mares by RED RANSOM and INTIKHAB are candidates.

Pride Of Dubai is one of eight Group winners sired by Street Cry from daughters of Danehill. The theory of sex balancing (bringing together a son and a daughter of an individual in a mating) suggests he would be interesting with mares by grandsons of DANEHILL, such as MASTERCRAFTSMAN, CHOISIR and ZOFFANY (who creates 3×4 to both Danehill and Machiavellian). Sex balancing to Danehill has produced the Gr.1 winners GUELPH, ASTAIRE, ALIZEE and SOUTHERN LORD.

The SADLER’S WELLS line has to be tried. Street Cry had Gr.1 and Gr.2 Australian winners out of mares by sons of Sadler’s Wells, plus a Gr.2 British winner with a dam by GALILEO. Three of Street Cry’s Gr.2 winners have second dams by SADLER’S WELLS.

A grand-daughter of NUREYEV produced a Gr.1 winner to another son of Street Cry.

DIXIELAND BAND is another son of Northern Dancer who has played a part in the Street Cry success story. Street Cry’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winners Street Sense and New Year’s Day are respectively out of daughters of DIXIELAND BAND and DIXIE UNION. The sires of the second dams of Street Cry’s Group winners also include DIXIELAND BAND and another of his sons.
