Shanghai Bobby was the undisputed 2yo champion of 2012, topping the Experimental Free H. by a margin of 3lbs. In the Eclipse Award voting, Shanghai Bobby received 253 of the 254 votes, thanks to a record of five victories from five starts from April to November. After taking the Gr.2 Hopeful S., he recorded Gr.1 victories in the Champagne S. (by five lengths) and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. His sire Harlan’s Holiday is a champion sire of 2yo’s.

Shanghai Bobby’s stallion prospects have been boosted by two other sons of Harlan’s Holiday, Into Mischief and Majesticperfection, both of whom sired first-crop Gr.1 winners.

There are very few limitations to Shanghai Bobby’s options as Storm Cat will be back in the fourth generation in the pedigrees of his foals, Mr Prospector in the fifth and Northern Dancer even further back.

Goldencents, the first Gr.1 winner by a son of Harlan’s Holiday, is out of a grand-daughter of FORTY NINER and so is Practical Joke, Into Mischief’s other Gr.1 winner. Harlan’s Holiday sired the very smart Mendip from a mare by CORONADO’S QUEST. Majesticperfection’s top-class Lovely Maria has a dam by THUNDER GULCH.

Harlan’s Holiday has shone with the FAPPIANO line siring Classic placed Denis of Cork, plus Graded winners from mares by UNBRIDLED, UNBRIDLED’S SONG, RED BULLET and EMPIRE MAKER. Shanghai Bobby has had a $250,000 first-crop colt out of an UNBRIDLED’S SONG mare.

Other branches of the Mr Prospector line to suit Harlan’s Holiday include GONE WEST (broodmare sire of Gr.2 winner Willcox Inn) and SEEKING THE GOLD (Gr.2 winner Annual Report). MR GREELEY is broodmare sire of two Graded winners by Harlan’s Holiday. A GRAND SLAM mare produced Into Mischief’s Gr.3 winner Strict Compliance. Another son of Harlan’s Holiday has a Gr.2 winner out of a LEMON DROP KID mare. Shanghai Bobby’s first yearlings included a $400,000 colt inbred 4×2 to CARSON CITY and a $275,000 filly out of a GRAND SLAM mare.

Another branch of the RAISE A NATIVE line has worked with Harlan’s Holiday. The high-class Majesticperfection has a dam by WAVERING MONARCH, while the good Canadian 2yo Bear Holiday is out of a MARIA’S MON mare.

SEATTLE SLEW line mares supplied Harlan’s Holiday with Graded winners out of daughters of DONERAILE COURT, SLEW CITY SLEW and PULPIT.

Harlan’s Holiday has GSW’s out of mares by Roberto’s sons SILVER HAWK and DYNAFORMER and grandson ARCH.

Harlan’s Holiday has Gr.2 and Gr.3 winners out of DEPUTY MINISTER mares, which opens the door for AWESOME AGAIN, DEHERE, FRENCH DEPUTY and SILVER DEPUTY.

DIXIELAND BAND sired the dam of the 2014 Gr.2 winner Conquest Harlanate and also figures as the sire of the second dams of several good winners by Harlan’s Holiday.

Inbreeding to STORM CAT through Shanghai Bobby should reinforce his excellent 2yo ability. His first-crop yearlings included a $575,000 colt out of a FOREST WILDCAT mare and a $380,000 filly out of a FORESTRY mare.

Shanghai Bobby’s family produced the smart American Lion to TIZNOW.
