“So You Think won more prize money in Britain and Ireland in 2011 than any other horse, his £1,133,117 edging out Frankel… highly acclaimed at the time [of his purchase] as the best Australasian champion of modern times, and already a legend… So You Think is as tough and consistent a top-class performer as you will find… The strapping So You Think, a strong, well-made individual” Timeform Racehorses of 2011

First Australian yearlings sold for $500,000, $430,000, $430,000, $350,000, $330,000, $325,000, $310,000, $300,000 etc.

First European yearlings selling now.

The only inbreeding in the first five generations of So You Think’s pedigree is 3×4 to Northern Dancer, through Sadler’s Wells and Nijinsky. His pedigree is free of such major influences as Mr Prospector, Danzig, Nureyev, Storm Bird, Blushing Groom, Grey Sovereign, Roberto and Ahonoora. Other major influences, such as Shirley Heights, Darshaan and Sharpen Up, are sufficiently far back to allow breeders to introduce a second line to them.

High Chaparral’s top-class miler Toronado is out of a mare by GONE WEST’s son GRAND SLAM. The very smart Magadan is out of a MACHIAVELLIAN mare, his Gr.1 winner Redwood is out of a WOODMAN mare and he has Gr.3 winners out of daughters of KINGMAMBO and KING’S BEST. Mares by other GONE WEST stallions, such as ELUSIVE QUALITY, MR GREELEY and SPEIGHTSTOWN should also suit.

High Chaparral had several Group performers inbred 4×3 to KRIS, including his Gr.1-winning son Wrote.

So You Think’s sire High Chaparral has an encouraging record with DANZIG line mares. The top-class Free Eagle and the smart 2015 3yo Mr Singh are among his five stakes winners out of DANEHILL mares. He also had stakes winners out of daughters of DANSILI and DANEHILL DANCER. So You Think’s first Australian crop included high-priced yearlings out of daughters of DANEHILL, FLYING SPUR and ANABAA. He can be expected to do well with daughters of DANEHILL DANCER, DANSILI, ROCK OF GIBRALTAR, HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR, EXCEED AND EXCEL,

High Chaparral also excelled with the GREEN DESERT branch of the DANZIG line. His foals out of GREEN DESERT mares included the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Wrote, the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile second Lady Darshaan, the Group-placed Gypsy Highway and the Listed winner Tempest Fugit. High Chaparral also built an impressive record with CAPE CROSS, broodmare sire of the Gr.2 winners Western Hymn and The Miniver Rose and the Gr.1-placed Johann Strauss from 15 foals. Western Hymn is out of a mare inbred 3 x 3 to DANZIG. So You Think had high-priced yearlings from his first Australian crop out of mares by Green Desert’s sons DESERT PRINCE and DESERT SUN. So You Think therefore has to be a likeable option for mares by such as CAPE CROSS, DESERT PRINCE, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, OASIS DREAM and DESERT STYLE.

NUREYEV features in the pedigrees of several of High Chaparral’s Gr.1 performers, including It’s A Dundeel, Wigmore Hall, Petit Chevalier, Beach Bunny and Lady Lupus. High Chaparral’s Oaks third High Heeled is out of a grand-daughter of FAIRY KING, and is therefore inbred 3×4 to Fairy Bridge. Inbreeding to SADLER’S WELLS could also be considered. Daughters of such as TEOFILO, NEW APPROACH, MOTIVATOR, AUTHORIZED and HURRICANE RUN create 3×4 to Sadler’s Wells.

High Chaparral’s matings with mares by STORM BIRD’s fast son MUJADIL resulted in the accomplished French filly Joanna and the Group-placed Imperial Concorde. LYPHARD sired the second dam of High Chaparral’s Gr.1 winner Redwood, while his Australian Derby winner Shoot Out is out of a grand-daughter of BE MY GUEST.

The MILL REEF line has traditionally flourished with the Sadler’s Wells male line and a second line of DARSHAAN or SHIRLEY HEIGHTS will suit So You Think. High Chaparral’s Gr.2 winner Western Hymn, his Listed winner Kilimanjaro and the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile runner-up Lady Darshaan have 3×3 inbreeding to DARSHAAN, while his smart son Magadan and three of his Listed winners have second dams by SHIRLEY HEIGHTS.

High Chaparral sired the very smart stayer High Jinx from a SURUMU mare and the Gr.1 placed Araldo from a mare closely inbred to SURUMU. Surumu’s son ACATENANGO is the broodmare sire of three of his Listed winners and also sired the second dam of the Gr.3 winner Tai Chi.
