No young stallion in Kentucky has built a bigger international reputation in recent years than War Front. This fast son of Danzig has rapidly established that his progeny can shine at the top level on all surfaces and are equally at home in the U.S. and Europe.

One of the colts which helped build this reputation is War Command, who won both the Gr.2 Coventry Stakes and Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes. He was very impressive in storming home 6 lengths clear at Royal Ascot. In taking the Dewhurst, War Command improved his juvenile record to four wins from five starts.

It isn’t just his racing record that suggests that War Command has a lot to offer as a stallion. War Command has no inbreeding in the first four generations and he is out of Wandering Star, a Gr.2 winner bred along similar lines to the highly successful stallion Silver Hawk. Silver Hawk sired top winners throughout the northern hemisphere, including winners of the Derby, St Leger and Prix de Diane. Thanks to War Front, War Command’s success should come lower down the distance scale.

War Command looks sure to be suited by daughters of SADLER’S WELLS and GALILEO. War Front has two Gr.1 two-yearold winners out of a SADLER’S WELLS mare and two Gr.1 winners out of a GALILEO mare, namely the very tough Roly Poly and the 2017 Middle Park and Dewhurst winner U S Navy Flag. Another pointer to GALILEO mares’ suitability is the fact that Galileo sired 45% black-type winners from Silver Hawk mares. Silver Hawk’s daughters also produced Gr.1 winners to SADLER’S WELLS and EL PRADO. War Command should also suit daughters of MONTJEU and HIGH CHAPARRAL. Dansili, another grandson of DANZIG, has a terrific record with SADLER’S WELLS mares.

War Front has sired Gr.1 winners from mares by MR PROSPECTOR’s sons MISWAKI, FORTY NINER, WOODMAN and SMART STRIKE. War Front’s top 2yo Air Force Blue has a second dam by SEEKING THE GOLD. This suggests that War Command could also do well with daughters of KINGMAMBO, SEEKING THE GOLD and MACHIAVELLIAN, as well as with Forty Niner’s son DISTORTED HUMOR (who creates 3×4 to DANZIG). Other grandsons of Danzig have Gr.1 winners with dams by MACHIAVELLIAN (5), WOODMAN (3), MISWAKI, GULCH, ELUSIVE QUALITY, ZAMINDAR, ZAFONIC, CITY ZIP and DUBAI DESTINATION. This male line also promises to suit War Command, whose first-crop yearlings included a €300,000 filly out of a KINGMAMBO mare.

Grandsons of DANZIG have numerous Gr.1 winners from mares by PEINTRE CELEBRE, plus others from daughters of STRAVINSKY and THEATRICAL, all sons of NUREYEV. War Front’s son Declaration of War sired the smart French 2yo Olmedo from a daughter of PIVOTAL.

Inevitably, inbreeding to DANZIG will have to be tried with War Command. Mares by sons of DANEHILL and GREEN DESERT create only 3×4 to DANZIG. This allows daughters of DANSILI, DANEHILL DANCER, HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR, ROCK OF GIBRALTAR, MOZART, DUKE OF MARMALADE, EXCEED AND EXCEL, CAPE CROSS, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT and OASIS DREAM.

The STORM CAT branch of the NORTHERN DANCER male line has supplied several Gr.1 winners to grandsons of Danzig, via daughters of such as GIANT’S CAUSEWAY, HENNESSY and CATRAIL.

Other stallions bred on the Danzig-Roberto cross sired Graded winners from daughters of RAHY and GROOM DANCER. Declaration of War, another of War Front’s top sons, is also out of a RAHY mare, as is his Gr.3 winner War Correspondent, so mares with BLUSHING GROOM blood look sure to do well with War Command.

They also sired high-class winners from daughters of four different sons of SHARPEN UP, including KRIS, TREMPOLINO and SELKIRK.

Danzig line stallions are responsible for many Group winners from MILL REEF line mares, doing especially well with daughters of DARSHAAN.

Other grandsons of Danzig have numerous Gr.1 winners out of mares by INDIAN RIDGE and INCHINOR and War Front sired the Gr.1-placed Lancaster Bomber from an INDIAN RIDGE mare. Mares with some AHONOORA blood therefore appeal.
