A homebred for the Repole Stable, superbly bred filly Nonna Bella (3f Stay Thirsty x Nonna Mia, by Empire Maker) made it two wins in as many starts at Gulfstream Park on Friday.
Sent out favorite for the seven furlong allowance, the Todd Pletcher trained filly was always up in the firing line. Despite tiring slightly near the finish she had enough left to win comfortably by a length.
Nonna Bella (pictured) is the third winner for Grade I placed Nonna Mia, whose previous two winners are Grade I Wood Memorial Stakes winner Outwork and stakes-placed Nonna’s Boy.
Stay Thirsty also posted a smart Allowance winner at Santa Anita on Friday. Princess Karen (3f Stay Thirsty x Chitka, by Jade Hunter) scoring her second win from three starts. Prepared by Jeff Bonde, she forged clear to win by a 1¼ lengths over 6½ furlongs.
