TDN Rising Star for Scat Daddy

Unbridled Daddy (Scat Daddy) winning at Saratoga

Scat Daddy is having a red hot run with his juveniles this year posting two new winners on Sunday at Saratoga including Unbridled Daddy (2c Scat Daddy x Unbridled Essence, by Unbridled’s Song), who earned TDN Rising Star status for his barnstorming victory.

A fast finishing fourth on debut at Belmont on July 19, the Todd Pletcher trained colt was sent out favourite for this 1 and 1/16th mile contest on turf and produced a freakish turn of foot to power home from back in the field and win by three-quarters of a length.

A homebred for Red Oak Stable, Unbridled Daddy is the first winner for Grade III winner Unbridled Essence.

“We were watching down here from Hialeah and we were definitely concerned down the backside given the pace,” said Rick Sacco, Racing Manager for John Brunetti’s Red Oak Stable.

“But Irad [winning rider Irad Ortiz Jr.] told Todd after the race that the colt has great balance. He is a neat and well-balanced horse, not all that big, but very intelligent and great conformation. We’re looking forward to his next start.”

Unbridled Daddy is likely to step up to stakes-company for his next run with the Grade II With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga September 2 a possible target or the Grade III Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont Park September 26.

Scat Daddy made it a juvenile double at Saratoga when Silky Girl (2f Scat Daddy x Beau Dare, by Military) scored at her second start.

A homebred for Rosedown Racing Stables, she led throughout and won the 1 and 1/16th mile contest by a neck.

Scat Daddy is the leading North American two year-old sire by earnings and winners.
