TDN Rising Star for Scat Daddy

Earning TDN Rising Star status at Saratoga on the weekend was promising colt El Kabeir( 2c Scat Daddy x Great Venue by Unbridled’s Song), who broke his maiden by daylight.

Not seen to his best when checked sharply after the jump before recovering to run third over five furlongs at the same venue on August 14, El Kabeir showed his true colours when stepped up to seven furlongs.

He quickly pushed through to lead and never looked like being beaten, opening up to win by 10 and ¾ lengths.

“He made me enter him, the horse did,” said winning trainer John Terranova.

“I kind of threw it out there to [Ahmed] Zayat and Justin [Zayat] earlier in the week. I said, ‘This horse really is doing well. I don’t know if we want to even wait until we get back to Belmont.

“He did everything right, perfect, even in that first race. He came out of it like he needed it. He had trouble at the break, and we knew he wasn’t a five-furlong horse; he wanted more ground in front of him.”

El Kabeir will be aimed towards the better races with the Grade I Champagne Stakes at Belmont on October 4 named as a likely goal.

A $250,000 OBS August Yearling purchase, El Kabeir runs for the Zayat Stable and is the first winner for unraced Great Venue, a half-sister to Grade II winner Too Much Bling.
