Ivawood, one of last year’s highest-rated 2yo’s, is joining the stallion team at Coolmore.
The grandson of Invincible Spirit has a similar profile to Zoffany, this year’s outstanding first-crop sire, in that he too shone in some of the top juvenile events before being placed in top mile events at three. Ivawood won the Gr.2 July Stakes and Gr.2 Richmond Stakes in such good style that he started odds on for the Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes, in which he was beaten only a nose on unsuitably soft going.
This season Ivawood finished third to Gleneagles in both the 2,000 Guineas and Irish 2,000 Guineas. In being placed in the 2,000 Guineas he followed in the footsteps of his great-grandsire Green Desert, also a July Stakes winner. His sire Zebedee was another fast 2yo, while his grandam Kinnaird won the Gr.2 May Hill Stakes at two and the Gr.1 Prix de l’Opera at four.
Ivawood is such a good-looking individual that he cost 220,000gns as a yearling and Coolmore’s Tom Gaffney is delighted with the new arrival stating “Ivawood has tremendous presence and is a big, powerful colt with a beautiful action. He’s one of the highest-rated 2yo’s ever from the Green Desert sire line and won the Gr.2 July Stakes and Gr.2 Richmond Stakes in faster times than Shalaa, so that tells you how exceptionally fast he is.”
His fee will be announced at a later date.
