Royally bred mare Naples Bay (4m Giant’s Causeway x Cappucino Bay, by Bailjumper) scored a valuable Black Type victory when taking out the Grade III Noble Damsel Stakes at Belmont on the weekend.
Trained by Christophe Clement, Naples Bay turned in a career best performance to win the one mile event on turf by a length and a half, her overall record now four wins and two placings from 10 starts with prizemoney in excess of $200,000.
“It’s a big deal, because she’s a half-sister to Medaglia D’Oro , so she’s very well bred and now she’s a graded stakes-winner,” said Christophe Clement.
“Her owner Mr Ed Cox has been in the game forever and it’s a wonderful win for him. He’s been very loyal to the stable. I’m delighted.”
The highest priced weanling for her sire when selling for $350,000 at the Keeneland November Sale in 2008, Naples Bay is a half-sister to multiple Group I winner and sire Medgalia D’Oro being from the stakes-winner Cappucino Bay.
