Trainer Emma Lavelle is relishing next season with Claret Cloak (5g Vinnie Roe-Bewildered, by Prince Sabo) after the five-year-old ran out an easy winner of a Newbury novices’ hurdle on Saturday..
The Vinnie Roe gelding had won a Sandown novices’ hurdle by 17 lengths on his previous start and – sent off odds-on at Newbury – he had little trouble in defying a penalty to win the 2m 1f contest.
“This is a smashing, smashing horse, but is still a frame. I took him out of Cheltenham as he’ll be much better next year,” Lavelle told www.sportinglife.com.
Claret Cloak, who was bred in Ireland by W H Neville, also won a Wincanton bumper on his debut in November.
