Wanganui Guineas Winner for Thewayyouare

Promising gelding Twya (3g Thewayyouare x Luxurious Lady, by Theatrical) scored his first Black Type win when taking out the Listed Wanganui Guineas in New Zealand on Saturday.

A last-start maiden winner at Avondale, the Graeme Saunders trained Twya jumped well to lead from his inside gate and showed determination to fight off all challenges in the run home to win by a long neck.

“He had to be good,” said winning rider Mark Sweeney.

“He had a bit of a breather mid-race and I was a little surprised how well he kicked. He’s really coming of age now.”

From the first Southern Hemisphere crop of Group I winner Thewayyouare, Twya has two wins and a second from four starts, so has a bright future.

He is the first stakes-winner from Luxurious Lady, a grand-daughter of US stakes-winner Grand Luxe from the family of champion sires Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur.

Twya is the third stakes-winner for Thewayyouare and his second in New Zealand.
