Westerner’s son Captain Cutter wins Listed bumper on debut

A fabulous December for Westerner continued at Ascot on Friday when the Nicky Henderson-trained Captain Cutter (5g Westerner-Hollygrove Samba, by Accordion) made a sparkling winning debut in a Listed bumper. Barry Geraghty steered his mount, who was bred by Mrs S Brennan, to an easy success from some well-touted rivals and was subsequently quoted at just 14/1 by bookmakers for the 2013 G1 Champion Bumper at Cheltenham. But Henderson stated that the Westerner gelding could now go jumping. “Do we stay in bumpers or do we go hurdling? We'll have to talk. He's been in training for two years but has had problems,” Henderson told PA Sport.
