An unforgettable weekend for High Chaparral was cemented at Woodbine in Canada on Saturday when Wigmore Hall (5g High Chaparral-Love And Laughter, by Theatrical) won the G1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes.
The victory came a day after the Richard Hannon-trained Toronado (2c High Chaparral-Wana Doo, by Grand Slam) confirmed himself one of the best two-year-olds of 2012 by winning the G2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.
The admirable Wigmore Hall, who was bred by Mr and Mrs K Cullen, was winning the Woodbine contest for a second consecutive year as he fought off Al Khali under Jamie Spencer, who said: “He’s one of my favourites, he tries really hard.”
“He loves Canada, especially. He’s not so great on the soft turf, but he loved the conditions here today,” trainer Michael Bell’s representative Gillian Dolman added.
