Kew Gardens (Galileo) winning the G2 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot

Gardens on Kew for Galileo in G2 Queen’s Vase

Kew Gardens (3c Galileo-Chelsea Rose, by Desert King) led home a Royal Ascot 1-2 for Galileo on Wednesday when landing the G2 Queen’s Vase under Ryan Moore.

Kew Gardens won easily by four and a half lengths from stablemate Southern France (3c Galileo-Alta Anna, by Anabaa) and is now rated just a 5/1 chance with some bookmakers to bring Classic success in the G1 St Leger in September.

Winning trainer Aidan O'Brien said: "We always thought Kew Gardens would stay, and he loves fast ground.

"He can do a lot of things. He can go back for the Irish Derby or have a little rest and be trained for the St Leger. The St Leger is a long way away but in the autumn it would be a lovely race for him. But he came out of Epsom very well and if he comes out of this as well, he could well go for the Irish Derby; it's always a race we consider with these horses. We'll see how he is."

Moore was full of praise for his mount.

"He's a lovely horse, the trip suited him, and hopefully he can go on from there. He won the Zetland Stakes last year and ran two good races before the Derby. He was slightly disappointing at Epsom but that can happen, as we know,” said the jockey.

"We thought this trip would suit him. He has got a very good mind, as Aidan said to me, and he gets the trip fine.”
