Inspired Gem Goes Gate-To-Wire In Maiden Victory
Inspired Gem (3f Competitive Edge x Unbridled Gem, by Unbridled’s Song) was a star under the lights at Charles Town in a Maiden Special Weight on Saturday night when becoming the newest winner for her sire.
Racing over 4½ furlongs on the dirt, the filly went immediately to the lead and opened up a little over a length on the field when well in hand. Jockey Christian Hiraldo had the filly well in hand for most of the race and never had to ask for her all as the filly coasted home in the final sixteenth to win by a deceivingly small three quarters of a length.
Trained by Clovis Crane for Inspire Thoroughbreds, LLC, the three-year-old filly was bred by Catesby W. Clay Investment 2 out of stakes producing Unbridled Gem.
That mare is the dam of four winners from five to run, led by Scat Daddy’s stakes placed Scat Mommy. Unbridled Gem herself is a sibling to two stakes placed runners and a granddaughter of Ruby Slippers, the dam of Grade I winner Rubiano and granddam of Champion Sire Tapit.
The sire of 53 worldwide winners, Competitive Edge is one of the leading young value stallions with four stakes winners and eight stakes horses in his first crop.
