Kalaxana (Rock Of Gibraltar) winning the Lenebane Stakes (L) at Roscommon

Irish black-type for improving Rock 3yo

The Aga Khan’s home-bred Kalaxana (3f Rock Of Gibraltar-Kaladena, by Daylami) completed a three-timer when winning the Listed Lenebane Stakes in good style at Roscommon on Monday evening.

Trained by Mick Halford and ridden by Chris Hayes, the Rock Of Gibraltar filly took the extended 1m 3f event by a length and a quarter with connections now understandably planning a step up to Group company.

“She’s a very straightforward filly with a great attitude. Chris just said she didn’t handle the track that well. He had to pick her up to get her going and then got there a shade sooner than he would have liked,” said Halford.

“She’s progressive and handles that ground well. She’ll go now for the G3 Give Thanks Stakes at Cork. She doesn’t take that much out of herself at home and hopefully she continues to progress. She has the size and scope and could be the type to stay in training next year.”
