Miles Ahead (Competitive Edge) Winning At Gulfstream

Miles Ahead Wins Again for Competitive Edge

Miles Ahead (3g Competitive Edge x Jennie R., by Awesome Again) was again impressive when winning his second straight race on Sunday by open lengths at Gulfstream Park.

Cutting back to 5½ furlongs on the dirt, Miles Ahead jumped to challenge for the lead quickly out of the gate with jockey Edgar Prado sitting chilly on the gelding. With a rival coming to press him in the turn, Prado got to work and his mount started to pull away.

Any thoughts of Miles Ahead having a chance at being beaten were put to sleep in the stretch when he pulled away to win by 3¼ lengths as the favorite for trainer Eddie Plesa, Jr.

Miles Ahead was purchased by David Melin, Leon Ellman, and Laurie Plesa for $175,000 at the OBS March 2-Year-Old Sale last year after he old for $120,000 as a yearling. Bred by Nicholas Lotz and Betsy Kelley, he is out of three-time Listed winner Jennie R. Jennie R. is also the dam of Listed winner La Grange and the granddam of two other stakes winners.

Competitive Edge is one of the leading sires of his generation with 35 winners worldwide, including four stakes winners and six stakes horses.
