Shooters Shoot Impressive Winner for Competitive Edge
Shooters Shoot (3c Competitive Edge x Repeat, by Bernardini) helped entertain viewers on Saturday when picking up his second career victory at Oaklawn Park.
Racing over a mile on dirt, Shooters Shoot immediately went on the offensive and took the lead on the rail while being pressured by Blackberry Wine. The pair quickly set down for what would turn into their own little match race, matching strides a few lengths ahead of the field.
Neither colt was willing to give up the lead, trading the lead back and forth until the final sixteenth of a mile when Shooters Shoot was able to stick his head in front and win by a neck in a race that lit up social media.
Racing for ERJ Racing, Exline-Border Racing, and Dan Hudock, trainer Peter Eurton shipped the colt to Oaklawn Park after his maiden score at Santa Anita in March. A $300,000 OBS April 2-Year-old purchase by Exline-Border Racing last year, the colt has won two straight and looks to head to bigger targets after this victory.
The leading sire of his generation by winners, Competitive Edge is quickly proving to be a value sire with 43 winners and seven stakes horses led by four stakes winners in his first crop.
