Torcedor wins Ascot G3 for Fastnet Rock

Torcedor (6g Fastnet Rock-Magnolia Lane, by Sadler's Wells) looks a leading contender for the G1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot following his victory in the G3 Sagaro Stakes at the same course on Wednesday.

The son of Fastnet Rock, trained by Jessica Harrington for Te Akau, finished second in last season’s G1 British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot and put in a great front-running effort to win by five lengths on Wednesday.

"He was the class horse in the race and if he was to run to three-quarters of his best he should have beaten them today. He had the class form coming into the race,” said winning rider Colm O’Donghue. "He is from the same family as Yeats and has got that great body to him. Hopefully it’s all systems go for the Gold Cup.”

Torcedor was bred by Barronstown Stud.
