Brentford Hope (Camelot) winning his maiden on debut at Newmarket

Two Dark Horses For Camelot

In the last three years the Handicappers’ dark horses to follow into their 3YO season have included Group 1 winners Without Parole, Barney Roy and Harry Angel.

This year BHA Handicapper Graeme Smith selected four colts which include the Richard Hughes-trained Brentford Hope. The son of Camelot was bred by Haras du Logis St Germain and races in the colours of Bernardine & Sean Mulryan. Smith describes him as: “hacking all over the opposition in a 1m2f maiden at Newmarket, speeding away to win by 5 lengths (pictured). By Camelot & bred to stay 1m4f, his potent turn of foot should mean he takes high order."

Amongst the four Irish dark horses selected by IHRB Handicapper Mark Bird is Even So (Camelot), bred by Lynch Bages, who impressed when winning her maiden at Gowran for Ger Lyons. “A late April foal, by Camelot, out of a half- sister to Derby winner Dr Devious,” says Bird, “she has the potential to compete at a higher level as a three-year-old & is very much one to look forward to over middle distances."
