Atamisque (Highland Reel) winning the Gr.2 Premio Dormello at Capannelle

Unbeaten Filly Provides Highland Reel With Group 2 Success

Atamisque (2f Highland Reel - Aury Touch, by Pounced) provided Highland Reel with his first Stakes success as a sire when running out an impressive winner of the Group 2 Premio Dormello at Capannelle.

The Alduino Botti-trained bay was sent off favourite for the mile contest following her winning debut over course and distance earlier in the month, and was reunited with Mario Sanna on Sunday. Held up towards the back of the field, she was pushed along from over two furlongs out and was ridden to lead a furlong from home. Running on strongly, she drew clear to win by three and a half lengths from French raider Jacinda.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “She was very impressive on her debut and confirmed it here. She has plenty of ability.”

The unbeaten two-year-old is owned by Scuderia Ste Ma and is the first foal bred by Stefano Botti out of Aury Touch, who foaled a Gleneagles colt earlier this year. She continues a fine start at stud by Highland Reel, who though best known for his international Group 1 victories, was a high-class two-year-old himself.

The beautifully bred son of Galileo won two of his three juvenile starts, including in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes, and went on to score at the highest level on seven occasions.
