Shooters Shoot (Competitive Edge) winning his maiden at Santa Anita

Weekend Double For Competitive Edge

Shooters Shoot (3c Competitive Edge x Repeat, by Bernardini) made it another big weekend for Competitive Edge on Sunday when he became his sire’s second winner in two days.

Racing over a mile on the dirt at Santa Anita, the Peter Eurton-trained runner broke sharply on the rail. He quickly gained a short advantage and relaxed about three quarters of a length in front of the rest of the field. The colt started building his margin in the far turn and was in front by a few lengths as they swung into the stretch.

Shooters Shoot was never threatened in the final stages as he raced away to a 3¼ length maiden score to become his sire’s 41st winner for ERJ Racing, Exline-Border Racing, and Dan Hudock.

A $300,000 OBS April purchase last year, Shooters Shoot was bred by Nancy Shuford and is out of Bernardini mare Repeat. A half-sister to three stakes horses, Repeat is out of Grade III winner Letgomyecho.

The leading second season sire by winners, eight of Competitive Edge’s winners have been out of A.P. Indy granddaughters led by two of his four stakes winners.
