49th Stakes-Winner for Uncle Mo
Progressive colt King For a Day (3c Uncle Mo x Youbetwereven, by French Deputy) scored a commanding win in the $99,000 Sir Barton Stakes at Pimlico on the weekend.
A winner from three starts last season at two, the Todd Pletcher trained colt was making his first appearance of 2019 and strode clear for an easy two and a half length win in the 1 and 1/16th mile contest.
“He's a horse we've always had very high hopes for,” Pletcher said. “He got a little behind schedule to make any of the Triple Crown races, but the owners are very patient, just wanted to give him every chance to meet his expectations. So we gave him a bit of a break this winter. He's come back, he's trained well. We were actually looking at an allowance race. It didn't go. So this turned out to be a good spot.”
A homebred for Red Oak Stable, King For a Day is a half-brother to stakes-winners Ima Jersey Girl and Feel That Fire the dam of Grade I Saratoga Hopeful Stakes winner Mind Control.
King For a Day is the 49th stakes-winner for outstanding sire Uncle Mo.
