Alpha Centauri (Mastercraftsman) winning the G1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket

Alpha Superb for Mastercraftsman

Alpha Centauri (3f Mastercraftsman-Alpha Lupi,by Rahy) confirmed herself the outstanding European three-year-old filly of 2018 when stealing the show at Newmarket on Friday.

The Mastercraftsman filly added to her successes in the G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas and G1 Coronation Stakes when taking on older fillies to land the G1 Falmouth Stakes by four and a half lengths in fabulous style.

“She’s unbelievable - she was hacking along,” said trainer Jessie Harrington. “The lovely thing about it, as you saw after the race, is she is so relaxed. She doesn’t get upset, she comes in and has all the photographs taken and goes away.

“I sometimes think before a race is she almost too relaxed and has she gone off or done this or is not quite right. She is amazing–she had to do all the donkey work today, but has a very high cruising speed which really helps her. I’m very lucky to have her.”

Looking at future targets, she added: “It will probably be Deauville now for the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois. I know the Niarchos Family loves the Breeders’ Cup, so that is probably on the cards and it will be fantastic if it happens.”
