Another G2 Win for Glorious Empire
World renowned shuttle sire Holy Roman Emperor has had a good year in 2018 and one of his top performers has been US Grade I winner Glorious Empire (7g Holy Roman Emperor x Humble and Proud, by Pivotal), who claimed another feature race win on the weekend when taking out the $200,000 Grade II Fort Lauderdale Stakes at Gulfstream.
The James Lawrence trained seven year-old won the Grade I Sword Dancer Stakes earlier this year and was back to his best when cruising clear to win this 1 and 1/8th mile contest by two and a half lengths.
Ridden forward from the gate by Edgar Prado, Glorious empire looked the winner a long way from home and now has the overall record of 10 wins from 25 starts and nearly $1million in prizemoney.
“The instructions were very easy,” Prado said. “The horse loves to be on the lead. My only concern was [Blacktype]. If the horse didn’t chase me I was able to take a nice, easy lead and try to slow it down and have something left in the end, and that’s exactly what happened in the race. He broke sharp, I was able to put him in a good spot, and he was moving easy all the way around. When I asked him, he really gave me a good kick. He finished running really strong.”
Glorious Empire is the best of three winners from Humble and Proud, a half-sister by Pivotal to stakes-winner Delsarte.
