Hy Brasil (Fastnet Rock) Wins On Debut At Navan

Connections Impressed By Son Of Fastnet Rock

Hy Brasil (3g Fastnet Rock - Kahyasi Moll, by Brief Truce) made the perfect start to his racecourse career when staying on well to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Navan on Tuesday.

Racing over a mile and five furlongs, the Joseph O-Brien-trained bay overcame a slow start to join the back of the field under Shane Crosse. Taking close order with three furlongs left to race, he was pushed along to lead from two furlongs out. Keeping on well under pressure, he won by a length and a quarter from the favourite Zanahiyr, as stablemate Monopoly (Australia) stayed on for third.

Speaking after the race, Shane Crosse said, “I’m impressed by him, in fairness. He has done it well today. He showed plenty of boot there when I was at the brow of the hill to come down.”

Bred by Paget Bloodstock, the son of Fastnet Rock was a 60,000gns yearling purchase by his owner Demi O’Byrne. A half-brother to Grade 1 Gamely Stakes victor Belle Royale, he comes from the top-class family of Daylami, Dalakhani, Dolniya and Dalkala (Giant’s Causeway).
