Consistent Son Of Zoffany Gains Deserved Maiden Win

Thursday saw the Ger Lyons-trained Avarice (3g Zoffany - Spring Watch, by Invincible Spirit) gain a well-deserved maiden victory over ten furlongs at Fairyhouse.

The Newtown Anner Stud homebred had claimed runners-up honours on his three previous starts and was sent off favourite on return. Colin Keane rode the bay in a prominent position and made headway from over three furlongs out, improving to lead entering the final furlong. Keeping on well, Avarice scored by three parts of a length, as Tashi (Kingston Hill) finished a clear second.

Speaking after the race, assistant trainer Shane Lyons said, “He's a lovely genuine horse. He wants a mile and a half, but the rain played to his strengths over that trip.”
