Crocketts Bluff Impressive 2-Year-Old Winner for Tale of the Cat

Crocketts Bluff (2c Tale of the Cat x Debit, by Tapit) made an impressive late run at Laurel Park on Thursday to score his first victory for breeder-owner Shortleaf Stable.

Making his second start, the colt broke quickly and raced behind the leaders under jockey Forest Boyce early on before settling in midpack. When the field turned into the stretch, Crocketts Bluff was angled out to the middle of the sloppy track and made the most of having an open track ahead of him to close on the leader in the closing stages of the race and easily win by two lengths.

Trained by Shug McGaughey, Crocketts Bluff is the second winner from two to race out of young Tapit mare Debit. Debit is a half-sister to Grade II winner Position Limit and the dam of stakes placed Soldollie.

Crocketts Bluff is by evergreen Coolmore sire Tale of the Cat, whose 2-year-old crop includes stakes winning Cleon Jones, Group II placed Rebel Tale, and stakes placed Light in the Sky.
