Dukebox (Holy Roman Emperor) Wins The Class 2 Conditions Stakes At Newbury

Holy Roman Emperor Colt Remains Unbeaten At Newbury

Saturday saw the Richard Hannon-trained Dukebox (2c Holy Roman Emperor - Broadway Duchess, by New Approach) make it two from two in the Class 2 Conditions Stakes at Newbury.

The son of Holy Roman Emperor showed an excellent attitude when battling back on debut last month and stepped up to six furlongs on his second start. Chasing the leaders under Ryan Moore, he was asked to quicken approaching two furlongs out and made headway a furlong later. Ridden inside the final furlong, he led close home to beat fellow debut winner Dairerin by a nose.

A step up in class is now on the cards for Dukebox, according to his trainer, who said, “He will go to the Coventry and I'll put him in the Railway Stakes as well.”

Owned by JK Powell Racing, Dukebox was bought by Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock as a yearling for £65,000.
