Holy Roman Emperor Colt Tops Day 1 At Tattersalls Ireland

Holy Roman Emperor Colt Tops Trade At Tattersalls Ireland

A son of Holy Roman Emperor topped trade on the opening day of the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale when selling to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for €100,000.

Offered by the Castlebridge Consignment on behalf of Chasemore Farm as Lot 126, the February-born bay is a half-brother to winner Arendelle (Camelot). His sire, however, was a key attraction according to Mick Kinane, agent for the HKJC. “He's a lovely stamp of a horse,” Kinane said, adding, “the sire does well in Hong Kong, so hopefully this colt will be successful.”

A daughter of Starspangledbanner provided one of the earlier highlights when bringing a winning bid of €67,000 from De Burgh Equine and trainer Fozzy Stack. Consigned by Grove Stud as Lot 94, she is out of an unraced half-sister to multiple Stakes winner Battalion.

De Burgh soon added another offering by Starspangledbanner to his shopping basket, as he parted with €70,000 for Croom House Stud’s close relation to Endowing (Danehill Dancer), a Group 2 and Listed winner in Hong Kong. After signing for the filly, De Burgh spoke of her popular sire, saying, “We just love him. He has done so well from the limited opportunities he had early in his career and he upgrades his mares.”

Amanda Skiffington, meanwhile, was keen to secure a son of Australia offered by Castlehyde Stud as Lot 143. She went to €65,000 for the chesnut colt who comes from the family of Grade 1 winners Key Phrase, Bar Of Gold and Shared Belief.

Footstepsinthesand continues to prove popular in the sales ring in a season where Threat and Mums Tipple have advertised his potential on the track. Tom Burns reaped the rewards when selling his colt through Tally-Ho Stud for €60,000 to BBA Ireland and Yulong Investments. The bay, catalogued as Lot 138, is the first foal out of 10-time winner Bayan Kasirga.
