Justify Adds Third Straight Keeneland Session Topper to Resume

For the third straight session a Justify weanling led all in his age group at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale when the colt out of Stayclassysandiego sold for $435,000 to Baccari Bloodstock.

Bred by Nancy Shuford, the colt offered by Elm Tree Farm is a three-quarter brother to the multiple graded stakes winner and Grade I-placed Pretty N Cool. A stakes-placed runner herself, Stayclassysandiego is also a half-sister to Grade I winner Sean Avery and stakes placed W W American.

W W American is also the dam of Grade III-placed Grumps Little Tots with their stakes winning granddam Senita Lane also the dam of Grade II-placed Zip Quik.

“(The weanlings by Justify) are very good," said Chris Baccari. "The public is going to support him now and his yearlings. He was a very good racehorse and I’m a big fan. (This colt) reminds me of his sire. He has a lot of raw strength like he did. The mare is a good producer, and that is what I’m looking for. That is what determines the value to me. He had a good physical, but he has the pedigree to go with it.”

Justify’s session topper was also joined by the fifth most expensive weanling of the day when his colt out of Emily B brought $375,000 from Michael Fowler. Consigned by Stuart Morris for Jumping Jack Racing and Michael Fowler, the colt is out of a half-sister to Grade I winner Awesome Maria.

Emily B herself is a granddaughter of Grade I winner Pretty Discreet, whose credentials as a broodmare include Grade I winners Discreet Cat and Discreetly Mine.

In addition to having the most expensive weanling of the day, Justify will also be visited by the $500,000 overall session topper Contributing next year.

Justify leads all first crop sires at Keeneland by average with five sold for an average of $427,000 so far this sale and by gross with his five combining for $2,135,000 through the first three sessions.
