King Of Miami (American Pharoah) Mystic Lake Derby Win

King Of Miami Pharoah’s Second Stakes Winner of Day

King Of Miami (3g American Pharoah x Bombo Genesis, by Afleet Alex) gave American Pharoah his second stakes winner in 12 hours on Wednesday with a victory in the Listed Mystic Lake Derby.

Racing over a mile on the turf, King Of Miami was kept on the rail in the top half of midpack by Jareth Loveberry for the first three quarters of the race. Loveberry asked his horse to swing a few paths off the rail in the turn to make up ground on the leaders.

The gelding made a late run to get in front in the final sixteenth and found the line just in time when he had his head in front in a three-way photo finish for owner Patricia’s Hope LLC.

Trained by Larry Rivelli, the 3-year-old has now finished in the top two in three of his five starts for over $158,000 in earnings.

The Wesley Ward-bred is one of two American Pharoah runners for Bombo Genesis, whose juvenile filly Dream Fly finished second on debut at Keeneland in April. A winning Afleet Alex mare, Bombo Genesis is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner and multiple Grade I-placed Bound For Nowhere and stakes-placed Brinkley, with that mare also the dam of stakes-placed Bobby Brinkley.

King Of Miami’s second dam is a half-sister to champion Midnight Lute and multiple Grade II-placed Captain Cherokee among four stakes performing siblings.

Bombo Genesis also has an Uncle Mo yearling colt and returned to that Coolmore stallion for her 2021 foal.

King Of Miami is the third stakes winner in five days for American Pharoah after Willow won an Oaks trail earlier on Wednesday and Fi Fi Pharoah won a Santa Anita stakes on Saturday.
