Light In The Sky Leads Coolmore Sired 1-2 at Saratoga

It was a Coolmore America exacta at Saratoga on Friday when Tale of the Cat’s Light in the Sky (3f Tale of the Cat x Iron Goddess, by More Than Ready) bested Uncle Mo’s Pandamom (3f Uncle Mo x Akilina, by Langfuhr) in a Saratoga New York-bred allowance.

Racing over 1 1/16 miles on the turf, Light In The Sky immediately dropped to last as Pandamom raced at the opposite end of the field in third. It was a well spread out field with the leader opening it up even more when she opened up lengths on the second place horse down the backstretch.

As they turned into the straight, Light In The Sky weaved her way through the pack to be in perfect striking distance in the final furlong. Light In The Sky raced through a hole between Pandamom and Astoria Kitten and gave the Uncle Mo filly just the incentive she needed to find another gear but it wasn’t good enough to catch Light In The Sky, who finished fastest of all.

Light in The Sky finished an easy 1¾ lengths ahead of Pandamom to push her earnings to $133,226 with seven top three finishes in eight starts, most recently with three straight second place finishes at Saratoga and Belmont Park.

A homebred for Barry Schwartz, the filly is trained by Horacio DePaz. She is one of three stakes winners for the stakes winning mare Iron Goddess alongside Saratoga stakes winner Iron Mizz and stakes placed Iron Power with all eight of Iron Goddess’s foals winning at least one race.

Light In The Sky hails from the family of Thunder Gulch’s Horse of the Year Point Given and Grade II winner Street Story among others.

Tale of The Cat is the sire of 108 stakes winners and 236 stakes horses, led by seven-time Grade I winner Gio Ponti among his 10 Grade 1 winners.
