Choisir leaving the stallion barn

New Stakes-winner for Choisir

Choisir posted a new stakes-winner in Ireland on Saturday after Three Sea Captains (2c Choisir x La Tintoretta, by Desert Prince) took out the Listed Curragh Stakes .

The David Wachman trained colt was placed at his only three previous runs and broke his maiden in style when surging home to win the five furlong dash by a neck under his own steam.

“He’s always been a smart horse and has showed plenty from day one,” said Wachman.

“He got tired in his first run at Naas, and I thought he’d win at Dundalk last weekend, but he was in the stalls for a long time there and went to sleep. He won well today, [jockey] Wayne [Lordan] didn’t have to hit him and he has a bit of a future. He's a tough, hardy horse and he’s very sound and straightforward. He is [entered] in some of the better races towards the back end of the season, so we’ll see how he progresses.”

Three Sea Captains is the first stakes-winner for La Tintoretta, a minor winner by Desert Prince from Group I Haydock Sprint Cup winner Lavinia Fontana.

He becomes the 42nd stakes-winner for Choisir, who stands in Australia this spring at a fee of $27,500.
