Pythagoras Adds To Terrific Season For Zoffany

Pythagoras (2c Zoffany - Alegra, by Galileo) continued a fantastic season for Zoffany’s juvenile crop when winning Monday’s feature at Pontefract; the Listed Silver Tankard Stakes.

The Richard Fahey-trained bay came into the race with two wins from four starts to his name- most notably having raced over eight lengths clear over a mile last month. Tackling that same trip on Monday, Sir Robert Ogden’s homebred raced close to the pace under Paul Hanagan and was ridden to challenge approaching the final furlong. Soon in front, he kept on well under pressure to deny Mystery Angel by a neck, with just a short head back to the favourite The Rosstafarian (Starspangledbanner) in third.

Hanagan was impressed by the winner and later commented, “He's got that bit of class and he was very professional. He's the type that should take his racing well and I like him a lot.”

Pythagoras becomes the second black-type winner out of the Galileo mare Alegra, with half-sister Blue Gardenia (Mastercraftsman) having also captured a Listed contest over a mile. Zoffany has sired three Group-winning two-year-olds in 2020, led by Group 1 National Stakes victor Thunder Moon.
