Islandsinthestream (Wootton Bassett) Wins On Debut At The Curragh

Smart Debut Winner For Wootton Bassett At The Curragh

Islandsinthestream (2c Wootton Bassett - A Mist Opportunity, by Foxwedge) emerged as a smart prospect on Wednesday when making a winning debut in the seven furlong maiden at the Curragh.

A classy field of eight lined up for the opener, with Declan McDonogh positioning the eventual winner towards the back of the field. Making headway from the two furlong marker, Joseph O’Brien’s charge quickened to lead inside the final furlong and kept on well to score by a length.

“Declan was very impressed with him,” O’Brien said after the race. “He really got the hang of things late and was green when he hit the front but is smart. Historically this has been a good maiden and it looked like it again with the pedigrees on show.”

On future plans, the trainer continued, “He'll probably be making his way into a Tyros or a Futurity on his next start.”

Bred by Haras d’Etreham and Katelanis Bloodstock, Islandsinthestream is owned by ES Racing, Mrs MV Magnier and Mrs P Shanahan.
