Son Of Holy Roman Emperor Enters Everest Picture

The Inferno (5g Holy Roman Emperor - Spina Rosa, by Redoute’s Choice) rewarded Cliff Brown’s decision to relocate to Australia by running out a taking winner of Saturday’s Group 2 Mitty’s McEwen Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Brown admitted that his stable star was a major influence on returning to his native Australia, having trained him to win eight of his nine starts at Kranji, including in the Group 2 Sheema Classic, Singapore Guineas and Lion City Cup.

Dropping back to the minimum trip for the $300,000 contest, the bay stormed home to win by a length, as Group 1 winners claimed second and third.

Speaking after the race, the delighted winning trainer said, “I think he’s the best horse I’ve had. It’s early days and the emotions are high at the moment, but he wasn’t really touched today to win.”

Winning jockey Damian Lane was similarly impressed and said, “He really showed his class. He's a talented horse and quite often those horses pick things up naturally. That was the same thing here today.”

Owned by Barree Pastoral Company Pty Ltd, The Inferno was bred by Westbury Stud and adds to the international flavour of Holy Roman Emperor’s success story. The top-class son of Danehill has sired 13 individual Group 1 winners across five continents.
