Ruling (Camelot) Wins His Maiden At The Curragh

Talented Son Of Camelot Forges Clear At The Curragh

The highly-rated Ruling (3g Camelot - Rosenreihe, by Catcher In The Rye) lived up to expectations when gaining a deserved maiden win at the Curragh on Sunday.

Second to subsequent Group 1 performer The Mediterannean (Galileo) in a Leopardstown maiden, Joseph O’Brien’s charge went on to finish a close third in the Listed Nijinsky Stakes and was sent off the even-money favourite for the ten furlong maiden. Racing prominently throughout under Shane Cross, the bay asserted with ease before the two furlong marker and soon went clear, running on well to win by nine lengths.

There is plenty more to come from Ruling, according to assistant trainer Brendan Powell, who said, “Next year I think he’ll improve and he’ll improve going further. He’s not short of speed but I think he’ll stay well. He’s a real big horse and a horse with a future.”

Owned by Qatar Racing, the 210,000gns yearling purchase was bred by Gestut Wittekindshof.
